The feltmaker of the year Leena Sipilä
What fascinates me in feltmaking is, that the technique and wool as material do not restrict the making. The restrictions are within ourselves, wool can be formed into many in the hands of a feltmaker.I like to work simultaneously with many different problems: I do not use initialized patterns nor instructions; I make my own conclusions.
Occasionally I fail, but this way one learns best. You just have to get some air under your wings by looking around you – by collecting stones.
My doing is well described in Aaro Hellaakoski’s aphorism: ”By walking along the road you are a captive of the road, free is only the unbeaten snow”.
